L’chaim: The Jewish Letters Project is a place to read letters from Jews around the world sharing their wisdom about how to create a purpose-filled life. Some of these letters will be published here for the first time. I am hoping this site will evolve into a collective conversation.
I will be publishing on the second and fourth Monday of the month. The first post will feature a wisdom letter, and the second post will share adjacent material including why people write these letters in the first place, what is at stake for their families and friends, as well as what impact a letter has for recipients. Some people reread the letter when they want to hear the person’s voice. In one family, the letter takes on a life of its own as a Jewish text, and becomes a topic of commentary and conversation. Another letter has inspired decades of storytelling good enough to make the audience members laugh out loud.
